Not all societies are attempting to solve the same kinds of problems

"Morality as a social technology will take different forms because not all societies are attempting to solve exactly the same kinds of problems under the same kinds of constraints" via @IAI_TV https://t.co/WEd3ZOka3Z

I think Jeremy Bentham’s panopticon is an excellent view of objective morality. It reveals the nature of humans and how morality can be achieved.

It’s a thought experiment. As there are only a few characters on tweeter I think I’d describe it as how human behaviour changes from immoral to moral when humans think they are constantly being observed in some way, therefore, cannot get away with rapacious behaviour they’d...

There are some parts of “1984” whose relevance seems never to fade. One is the portrayal of the surveillance state. Another is Newspeak, the abuse of language for political purposes. https://t.co/7o4oPkctKr

I would add 1925 "Metropolis" by Thea von Harbou. Set in 2026 where a city is run by a society of slave laborers. Fritz Lang made great B&W movie of it in 1927.  The theme is consistent with the concept of "big brother" like control of the masses.

If the food we eat, the education we get, the healthcare we receive, the temples we go are regulated by the govt(and these facts are celebrated by the media)why not the news we consume? Are news professionals made of a finer clay than the rest of mankind?

Sevanti Ninan describes how the Indian media has been changed beyond recognition in the past 5 years, how mainstream media has been delegitimised, how the power of "Whatsapp media" has grown & much more:

As a matter of fact, Indian constitution is not secular in any sense of that word and freedom-struggle has not resulted in freedom from state-tyranny. Tyranny just changed hands. https://t.co/cm3rpTVYLP

Those who tweet in Hindi or Odia tend to be more prone to wordplay and humour. The same may be true for other local languages. Writing in English on the other hand allows the content to hog the limelight. Or may be English retains this status in India for those who don't speak it

Just saw Jupiter shining in the sky, the brightest I’ve ever seen it. It made me feel so small, and made our everyday arguments seem so petty

Ignorance lies in us in the form of thoughts. That is how it is explicable. Everything that is explicable lies as opposites i.e. like a lawyer you can argue the same thing to opposite conclusions.  So much so ignorance can only be removed by thought process called 'Vichara'.

If you realize that the objective world (that includes your body and mind) is the content of your intelligence then you realize that these contents appear and disappear and thus are unreal while your intelligence has always been there as a container with or without the content.
What appears and disappears is timebound and thus unreal whereas that which is eternal i.e. that which has no beginning and no end is timeless and Real.
That intelligence to which all things of the universe is content, know that Intelligence as You, the Self which is one without a second!

The authority of a political leader depends on his capacity to feel and express the sentiments of the people who follow him; it does not reside in himself. He holds his position because he is a representative man, not because he is such and such an individual. To take the position that because he has led in the past therefore his word must be law so long as he lives is to ignore the root principles of political life. #SriAurobindo #IntegralYoga https://t.co/AzyMFyH2QR

Enough of devotion! We now want critical works on Sri Aurobindo's literary output. Of course, nobody shd forget on whom he/she is writing! Can u forget when u r writing on Shakespeare? Like that. Sri Aurobindo is another Lord of the English  language.

He must be placed in a comparative framework. Else the world won't accept his merit. Most in the world r not devotees of Sri Aurobindo.  And our objective will be to make them know him.  Devotion has done enough harm to Sri Aurobindo. Both the devotees n detractors r guilty.

Dada I have not seen one second piece of literature ,not even rishi aurobindo tbh, that combines so many fields or divergent streams of wisdom in the diary of spiritual journey of a common Kolkata man ,only Kolkata can give such literature to the world

Ulysses by James Joyce shares a similar pattern in the way of narrative ,but Ulysses borrows from history&mythology, not exactly tantra,Philosophy &science like nigurananda. Btw I realised this now, nigurananda may well be considered a mild 'streams of consciousness' writer

Gebser's "universal way of looking at things" implies a "Universal Humanity" capable of such holistic and integral perception (*sub specie aeternitatis", as they say). This is Blake's "Albion", and the same is Aurobindo's "supramental consciousness". The same is Iain McGilchrist's "Master" mode of perception/attention.

What you enter is a kind of oneiric excavation site...a psychological space where our deepest memories of primary form -- marine shapes like prawns or conch shells or fish, lizards, goats, sundry animal and human shapes, faces, bodies, eyes, boats, little architectural details... https://t.co/jmIYdGZcBd
